Here are two easy ways for reflow oven choose:
Method 1: According what P&P machine you are using and consider whether your products need N2. If for low speed P&P line, E4 and E6 will be best solution, small footprint. If for middle speed P&P line, M6 and M8 will be enough. If for high speed P&P line, consider to use SF-8, 10, or 12. Then if need N2, you will need to choose N2 option.
Method 2: Estimated production of board. Remember a typical lead-free reflow oven profile is around 5 minutes, use the oven’s tunnel to divide 5 minutes, you will get the briefly conveyor speed. And check with this conveyor speed whether it can meet your production. For example board length 250mm, need to produce 120 pcs per hour. Estimated 50mm clearance between each board during conveyor, to finish 1 pc board in 0.5 minutes we will need to meet (250mm + 50mm)/0.5minutes speed, that’s 600mm/min. Typical reflow oven profile is about 5 minutes, so the minimum tunnel need to meet 5 x 600mm/min = 3000mm. So use this tunnel length to see which oven can meet, also consider the width of conveyor.
If your board is thin and deform during heating, to avoid it drop from chain conveyor, then you need center board support.
When most of your board are narrow size and quite higher production. Dual rail conveyor will double the production in reflow process. Remember you will need to use shuttle conveyor before and after reflow oven. This will save energy consumption, image you use one machine to double reflow production. But it’s only for narrow boards.
1.Get the profile from your solder paste supplier. This is very important reference for us to set up the reflow oven.

3.Tune each zone’s temperature and conveyor speed to make profile meet required by solder paste. This is briefly explanation, for more details we can send engineer to do this and train your engineer.
1.Most probably the heating tunnel length is different.
2.For profile’s point of view, for 6 zones oven means there are 6 points which an control the shape of profile, for 8 zones oven there are 8 points which can control the shape of profile. Obviously more points will be easier to get proper profile and more smooth profile.
Very basically, it’s a thermal machine, so it need to meet below points as basic:
1.control temperature precision
2.Delta T under control, need to be uniform temperature to apply to front, middle, rear side of PCB surface.
3.Temperature stability. Not big temperature drop after PCB pass (especially thick board) it can meet above 3 points, basically you can say it’s a not bad machine with good thermal character. If you are looking for a higher level, you may consider below:

3.N2 concentration and consumption
